Alavés were hoping to build on their midweek victory against Betis and take advantage of an unmotivated Zaragoza to move out of the relegation spots, but in the end they were beaten 3-0 and now have to win against Deportivo in their last match and hope Espanyol draw or lose against Real Sociedad to save themselves.

Oscar González had a goal disallowed for the home side before the break, but otherwise the visitors held on for an hour or so. But Diego Milito heading the locals in to the lead from Ewerthon's cross, and Savio adding a second from the penalty spot after he himself was tripped by Sarriegui.

It was the Brazilian's last game before returning to play out the rest of his career at home, and he celebrated further by setting up Oscar for the third with a well struck free kick.
