Getafe came in to the last game of the season at Celta with an outside chance of a place in the Intertoto cup, but in the end they fell 1-0 to the Galicians, who had already ensured their ticket for next season's UEFA cup. It was a match of goodbyes for some of the local players, in particular Gustavo López and Juan Sánchez who were both in the starting line up. López in fact showed that he still has a couple more seasons in him with an excellent display, setting up Contreras for him to head the first goal and then laying on a pass for Canobbio to shoot wide.

López was in action again after the restart, David Silva just failing to steer his cross on target before the Argentine winger was eventually substituted to rousing applause. After that Celta's performance dropped, and Pinto (who tied up the Zamora prize with another clean sheet) had to be on his toes to keep out Pernía's fierce drive. Pernía wasn't to see the end of the what is to be his last match before joining Atlético though, a second yellow card meaning he had to leave the field before the final whistle. A remarkable season for both sides however, and they can now have a well earned rest before it all starts again in three month's time.
