A much changed Deportivo La Coruña recorded a good 3-2 win over Zaragoza in their opening match. It was the visitors who took the early lead though, D'Alessandro lifting a long pass over to Ewerthon, who squared the ball across for his strike partner Diego Milito to score the easiest of goals.

Bodipo could have equalised soon afterwards though when he shot over the bar, and a few minutes later Depor were level when Juan Rodríguez finished off after Aizmendi and Bodipo both failed to turn in Riki's cross. And they went ahead with a hotly disputed penalty shortly before the interval, Sergio converting the kick after referee Pérez Burrull ruled that Gabi Milito had fouled Capdevila.

Zaragoza came back after the restart, D'Alessandro in particular forcing good saves out of Aouate. But they were left with ten men when new signing Juanfran was sent off for pushing Juan Rodríguez in the face, and Arizmendi took advantage to increase the lead following Sergio's free kick. Five minutes later Ewerthon got one back after Oscar headed on Diego Milito's long ball, but it was not enough to save the defeat.
