The Basque derby between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad ended in a 1-1 draw, the first time the San Sebastian side have taken a point from the San Mamés stadium in six years.

The first chance fell to the visitors, Aranzubia saving well from Uranga, but later in the first half referee Undiano Mallenco's assistant signalled a controversial penalty for hand ball when it appeared that, if anything, the ball had hit Aduriz on the arm.

Aduriz himself converted the kick to put his side ahead, and although Kovacevic came close to equalising with a header which Aranzubia kept out soon afterwards, Gabilondo could have increased the lead against his old side when he just failed to get on the end of Aduriz's cross.

Bakero was forced to make a change at half time, Aranburu making his first appearance for several months following a long injury to replace the injured Novo. And with a victory seemingly on the cards for the locals, the midfielder produced a late equaliser after Diaz de Ceria stepped over Xavi Prieto's cross to restore a little bit of justice for the visitors.
