Zaragoza moved up to sixth spot in the table after beating Mallorca 2-0 on Sunday evening. Chances were few and far between as the two sides tussled for control early on, Oscar González and Pisculichi both putting efforts well wide and Pereyra having a strike disallowed for offside.

The visitors found themselves with ten men though when Varela was rather harshly shown a red card for a foul on Aimar ten minutes before half time, and Víctor Fernández's side took advantage to go in front when Aimar set up Ewerthon after the restart.

Mallorca could have equalised when Jordi just failed to get on the end of a long cross, but with ten minutes to go Sergio García, who had replaced the injured Diego Milito early in the game, connected with D'Alessandro's cross to put the game beyond the reach of Manzano's side.
