Espanyol recorded their first points of the season with a 2-1 victory over Celta. Both sides came in to the game having played in the UEFA cup on Thursday night, but the visitors got the better start, Kameni having to be at his best to keep out Nené and Baiano. Tamudo hit the side netting with a shot later in the first half though, and Moisés Hurtado and Luis García both tested Pinto before Moisés headed García's free kick wide of the keeper to open the scoring three minutes after the restart.

Canobbio responded with a well struck free kick to equalise three minutes later, but Tamudo laid the ball back for Jonatas to place a shot wide of Pinto and restore the lead soon afterwards. Celta did their best after that, Oubiña heading a good chance wide, Baiano finding the keeper with another header and Jarque clearing an effort from Perera off the line with Kameni beaten before referee Ayza Gámez blew the final whistle, much to the relief of Ernesto Valverde and 18,000 fans.
