The game between Athletic Bilbao and Getafe ended goal-less, leaving the home side two points below the European spots and the visitors still down in the relegation zone. It was a dull game with few chances, with the locals if anything having the better of things. The closest they came to scoring though was when Amorebieta almost put through his own net, the Getafe players claiming the ball had crossed the line as it came off the bar before Orbaiz finally got it clear.

The main talking point though was the three red cards shown by referee Ramírez Domínguez, the first shortly before half time to Athletic's Aduriz after a bust up between the players. Numbers were levelled up when Contra was shown a second yellow card soon after the restart, and Murillo was the third to go for a hard tackle near the end of the game.

The second half followed in the same vein as the first, the best chance falling to Ustaritz with a header from Yeste's corner which Beleguer cleared off the line. Bernd Schuster's side felt they could have had a penalty when Orbaiz handled in the area, but otherwise neither keeper had much work to do. It can only get better from here on in!
