Villarreal finally appear to have got their season under way after a 1-2 victory at Mallorca. Two goals from Diego Forlán helped the "Yellow Submarine" to their second league win in a row, and they ended the weekend in ninth place.

Maxi López tested Viera early on, but Forlán headed wide before opening the scoring after Varela left the ball on a plate trying to cut out a deflected cross. And just three minutes later the Uruguayan striker got his second of the night with a header into an empty net from José Marí's lifted cross.

Mallorca had not lost all season though, and Arango and Jankovic both tried their luck before Jankovic pulled one back with a spectacular first time volley after Peña had headed out a corner. Manzano brought on Víctor and Diego Tristán, and the ex Depor forward went close. But headers from Nunes and Arango failed to find the target, and Mallorca had to accept defeat.
