Deportivo held on to sixth spot with a late 2-0 victory over struggling Real Sociedad, their third home win a row. The Galicians had the better of the first half, with Felipe, Capdevila and Riki all trying their luck. Real's only chance was a header wide from Kovacevic (who lost his two front implants in a clash with a defender), and Arizmendi thought he had scored when he had a strike ruled out for offside after the restart.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw though when under 21 international Barragán cut in from the right wing to curl a shot past Riesgo. That knocked the wind out of the visitors' sails, and five minutes later Riki squeezed past Juanito down the by-line to beat the keeper from the tightest of angles. The result leaves the Basque side at the bottom of the table with one point, the worst start to a season in their history, and coach José Marí Bakero is under pressure to get a result soon or be replaced.
