Racing Santander and Celta did themselves no favours with a 1-1 draw which leaves the Cantabrians still in the relegation zone and Fernando Vázquez's side just two points above them. The game got off to a lively start, Baiano hitting the post and Jonathan Aspas testing Toño with a long shot, and Zigic and Felipe Melo bringing a double save out of Pinto at the other end. And from the resulting corner, Zigic towered above the defence to head past the keeper, getting himself knocked out after a clash of heads for his pains.

Melo failed to find the target with an easy header soon afterwards, but Baiano brought a good save out of Toño after the restart. And ten minutes in to the second half Iriney equalised with a low shot off the far post through a crowd of players. With the game coming to an end the Cantabrians were left with ten men when Oriol was sent off, but even so they had a chance to win it when Zigic was brought down in the area. However Cristian Alvarez drove his penalty kick against the upright, and the final whistle went seconds later. The home fans were not happy, and coach Miguel Angel Portugal is already on the brink of being the first manager to fall this season.
