Athletic Bilbao are out of the relegation zone after a 2-3 victory at Gimnàstic, who themselves drop down in to the bottom three. Yeste converted a hotly disputed penalty in the tenth minute after a shot from Iraola hit Matellán's arm from close range as he lay on the ground, and the locals were left a man short when Ruz was sent off by referee Megia Dávila for a hard tackle on Orbaiz a few minutes later.

Ismael headed a good chance over the top, but soon afterwards Iraola got a second for the Basque side, rolling the ball in to the net after Bizzarri pushed the ball away from the feet of the charging Aduriz. And just five minutes after the restart, Yeste chipped an excellent third from outside of the area after seeing the keeper off his line.

Nàstic didn't give up though, and they got one back when Sarriegui turned Gil's cross in to his own net a few minutes later. And with twenty minutes to go, Makukula gave the home fans hope of a comeback with a headed goal from Abel's free kick. It was not to be though, and Athletic had won their first game of the season, which was also their first win in Tarragona after losing their only three previous meetings (one by 7-1!) some 50 years ago when Nàstic were last in the top flight.
