Valencia's away form let them down once again, a 1-1 draw at Espanyol leaving them down in fifth place with only one point from their last three visits. Local coach Ernesto Valverde was under pressure to get a result, and his side took the early initiative, Luis García going close with an acrobatic shot and Riera testing Cañizares with an angled shot soon afterwards. And midway through the first half Riera put the locals ahead after Cañizares could only parry Tamudo's header from De la Peña's cross.

Valencia equalised on the stroke of half time though, David Silva picking up a cross from Angulo to fire in a shot which Kameni got a hand to, but Jarque couldn't reach until the ball had already crossed over the line.

The hosts were left with ten men when Riera was shown a straight red after catching Curro Torres with an elbow eight minutes in to the second half, but even so the Chés couldn't find a way to take the three points, Kameni saving their best effort from Moretti shortly before the Italian left back limped off with an injury. The game ended with a bust up after Kameni kicked high at David Villa, but in the end it came to nothing and both sides went away with a point.
