Atlético Madrid seem to have found the magic formula, and they are now fifth after beating Levante 0-3. Javier Aguirre put out the same line up as the one which beat Villarreal the week before, and Luccin came close to giving them the lead with a long shot early on.

The Valencia based side were missing their two central defenders through suspension, and their replacements made it easy for their opponents, Dehu giving away a first half penalty on Antonio López which Fernando Torres converted, and César getting himself sent off early in the second half for a foul on the Spanish international striker.

By then López Caro had already brought on two extra strikers, with Nino just failing to turn in Kapo's pass soon after coming on, and the coach opted not to change things despite the losing his defender.

But Maniche had already tested Molina a few minutes earlier, and he latched on to a ball in from Galletti to extend the lead, his first goal for the club. And the second came only a few minutes later, the Portuguese midfielder heading an Antonio López cross wide of the keeper. Descarga had a goal disallowed for offside near the end, but by then it was all over.
