Racing Santander came away from their match at Deportivo with a point despite ending up with nine men. The game got off to a lively start, with Juan Rodríguez heading wide for the locals and Zigic doing likewise for the visitors. Riki hit the side netting and Verdú put a good chance wide, and Estoyanoff chose to head back towards a colleague rather than go for goal.

Five minutes in to the second half though when Munitis (returning for the first time to the Riazor) was sent off for insulting a linesman. Depor pushed forward, and Toño did well to tip a looping header from Riki over the bar. Aouate was called upon to keep out a tricky free kick at the other end, but Racing lost their other striker soon afterwards when Zigic was show a second yellow card for a tackle on Arbeloa. However Cristian was also sent off for a hard tackle on an opponent soon afterwards, and the Cantabrians held on for a valuable point.
