Athletic Bilbao recorded their second win in a row under new coach Mané, beating Deportivo 0-2 to move four points clear of the drop zone. The Galicians had gone seven games without a win before this one, and they went behind when Javi Martínez headed Iraola's corner past Aoaute with only eight minutes gone. Otherwise the home side they had the better of the first half, with Iraola turning a shot from Arizmendi for a corner and Aranzubia saving well from Riki and Arizmendi.

Gradually though Depor ran out of steam, and Urzaiz and Yeste both came close to extending the lead. Juanma got himself sent off for the second week in a row near the end for a second bookable offence after handling the ball, and with the game already in injury time Javi Martínez bulldozered through to force a shot past Aouate at the second attempt after his first effort was blocked by the keeper.
