Valencia moved back up to the verge of the Champions League spots after beating Mallorca 3-1 on Tuesday night, their third win in a row. The Balearic Islanders have never won in the Mestalla stadium, and they could have gone behind early on if David Villa had not missed the target after Prats blocked an effort from Silva. With six minutes to go to the break though the locals did take the lead when Vicente ran on to Villa's through ball to shoot low past the keeper.

The winger returned the favour for Villa to add the second a few minutes after the restart, the Spanish international striker picking up a cross to round Prats. Quique Flores decided to change his front man a couple of minutes later, and Morientes came on to make it three, heading a long ball down for Angulo, who crossed back in for the striker to head wide of the keeper. The visitors did get a late consolation with a twice taken Jonás penalty after Raúl Albiol fouled Víctor in the area, but it was too little too late.
