A depleted Barcelona side were held to a 1-1 draw at Getafe, a result which left them still three points behind leaders Sevilla with a game in hand. With Ronaldinho and Deco both suspended and another six first team players out through injury or illness, Rijkaard was forced to turn to B team players to make up his squad. And the locals took advantage to dominate the first half, with Alexis heading over, Víctor Valdés saving well from Güiza and Casquero having an appeal for hands turned down after his shot hit Márquez.

In between Gudjohnsen had caused some problems for Pato Abbondanzieri and his defence, but early in the second half Getafe found themselves with a late "Reyes" gift when Márquez scuffed a back pass, allowing Güiza to run through and beat Valdés. A quarter of an hour later though Barça drew level when Xavi, taking over free kick duties from Ronaldinho, curled a shot into the top corner of the net.

Pato did well to tip a shot from Giuly over the top soon afterwards, and Valdés did likewise at the other end from Casquero. Schuster decided to bring on his new signing Verpakovskis, but a few minutes later his side were left with ten men after Alexis picked up a second booking, and both teams settled for a point.
