2-0. 56. Cristian. Turned ball into net after Arizmendi passed under legs of keeper.

Real Madrid were beaten 2-0 by Deportivo, a second defeat in a row to nothing leaving them five points adrift of leaders Sevilla. Capdevila took advantage of a badly lined defensive wall to beat Casillas with a free kick in the tenth minute, and Riki could have added a second if he had been able to turn in a cross under pressure from Cannavaro.

Arizmendi was proving a nightmare for the visiting defence, going close twice before swathing past three or four defenders and shooting against the post with the goal at his mercy. And Madrid's first real shot at goal didn't come until a couple of minutes before the break, when Emerson poked a shot against the crossbar from the edge of the area.

Arizmendi fired just wide again after the restart, and then forced his way past Cannavaro down the by-line before passing the ball through the legs of Casillas to allow Cristian to score his first goal for Depor. Capello brought on Ronaldo and new boy Marcelo for Salgado and another debutant Gago, but although Beckham fired a free kick just over the bar and Reyes and Raúl also tired their luck, the visitors didn't get another shot on target. Madrid haven't won now in the Riazor for 15 years, and on this form it will be some time before they do so.
