Real Sociedad stay down in the relegation spots after losing 1-0 at Racing Santander, the first time in ten years they have failed to come away from the Sardinero stadium with at least a point.

The locals had the better of the first half, with Zigic in particular shooting wide two or three times and Scaloni also going close. Jesuli and Kovacevic tried their luck at the other end either side of half time, and Oscar Serrano (who started the game at left back) hit the bar with a cross from the left.

But with the game coming to an end and another draw on the cards, Zigic went down under a push by Mikel González, and Garay slotted home the resulting penalty. Racing move safely up to mid-table, and their opponents have a lot of work to do if they are to stay up this year.
