Valencia moved up to third spot, within two points of second placed Barcelona, after beating Levante in their city derby. The home side were on top right from the start, with Angulo bringing a couple of good saves out of Molina and Morientes heading another chance just wide of the near post. But López Caro's team held on until early in the second half, when substitute Hugo Viana beat Molina with a long shot after Morientes and Villa combined to set him up.

A few minutes later Silva got on the end of Miguel's cross to fire in a first time volley, and although his shot was going wide of the far post, Morientes stuck out a leg to deflect it past Molina. Reggi came on for the visitors and could have scored had Cañizares not produced a first class save from his header, but a few minutes later Ayala wrapped things up with a glancing header from Villa's wide free kick. A fifth straight win for Valencia, and López Caro is once more right in the firing line.
