Leaders Sevilla were presented with an award before kick off as the best team in the world in 2006. But they were knocked off their pedestal after being beaten 1-2 by a Mallorca side who were languishing just above the relegation zone following five defeats in a row in all competitions.

The visitors started well, with Maxi López going close with an angled shot early on. But midway through the first half referee Rodríguez Santiago ruled that Moyà had pushed over Jesús Navas, and Kanouté converted the resulting penalty to take him further ahead at the top of the Pichichi chart.

Varela tested Palop before the break though, and just two minutes after the restart Nunes levelled the scores, hooking the ball back into the net after Alves failed to clear a corner. And a quarter of an hour later Maxi López rolled home the winner after Jordi took advantage of a mix up between Alves and Adriano to set him up. It was Sevilla's first league defeat of the season in the Sánchez Pizjuán, and their lead is not cut down to just two points.
