Real Madrid moved level with Barcelona and Sevilla at the top of the table after a 0-1 victory at Mallorca, their second single goal win in a row. After Casillas saved an early effort from Maxi López most of the chances were for Capello's side, with Higuaín testing Moyà and Sergio Ramos heading a corner against the bar before the break. Maxi shot wide and Casillas had to save from Jonás Gutiérrez before the interval, but Diarra should have put the visitors ahead when he headed wide soon after the restart.

There were a few tempers raised when Robinho shot over the top a few minutes later, the locals feeling play should have been pulled up with Maxi lying injured. Van Nistelrooy put a couple of efforts over the top, but with a quarter of an hour to go Reyes settled it with a well struck free kick. Casillas still had to make a couple of saves, and substitute De la Red could have increased the lead. But Madrid are well in the title hunt, which nobody would have believed possible a few weeks ago.
