Atlético Madrid once again faltered at home in their push for a return to European football, a 1-1 draw against an improving Racing Santander leaving them outside of the top four. Both sides cancelled each other out in a dull first half, virtually the only time that either keeper was called into action was when Jurado shot timidly at Toño. But things livened up almost immediately after the restart, Scaloni bringing a good save out of Pichu and Fernando Torres almost beating Toño with a long shot at the other end.

Both sides had chances after that, Zigic and Munitis shooting off target and Luccin and Galletti trying their luck with long shots for the hosts. But the Cantabrians went in front following a long free kick from Toño, Munitis flicking on the ball for Zigic to run through and shoot wide of Pichu.

Just two minutes later though Atlético were level, Pablo getting on the end of Jurado's wide free kick to head down into the far corner of the net. Agüero could have won it with a header just wide a few minutes later, but Zigic went close and Munitis fired a free kick just over the bar. In the end a fair result, but Racing were more than happy to come away with a point.
