Racing Santander moved up into the top half of the table after they won 4-1 against bottom club Gimnastic Tarragona. All the goals came in the second half after a first half in which honours were shared, the best chances a header over the bar from Carlos Merino and a shot wide from Munitis. It was the visitors who went ahead though when new signing Grahn turned in Portillo's cross with his first touch in Spanish football just seconds after coming on as substitute.

The lead only lasted a minute though before Scaloni equalised with an impressive shot from outside of the area, his first goal for the Cantabrians. Eight minutes later the locals took the lead when Matellán headed the ball over his own keeper with Zigic pushing in from behind, and Colsa made it three when he got on the end of a Cristian Alvarez free kick to head wide of Bizzarri. And Zigic wrapped things up with a fourth goal after combining with strike partner Munitis, leaving the Catalans now twelve points away from safety.
