Deportivo beat Real Sociedad 0-1 on Saturday evening to take the Basque side a step closer to ending their 40 year stay in the top flight. After 24 games they only have 14 points, and nobody has ever saved themselves with such a low tally at this stage of the season.

The Galicians however have not lost in 2007, and they took the lead when Arizmendi finished off after Taborda had knocked on Sergio's free kick midway through the first half, referee Turienzo Alvarez turning down claims that Taborda had played the ball with his hand. It was the first real action by either side up to that point.

Real were unable to find the way past Aouate after that, despite having most of the play. Herrera wasted two or three chances, and Kovacevic (who has not scored in over a year) was equally as ineffective. Only Savio was causing any problems with his free kicks, but Aranburu and Víctor López were both unable to beat the Israeli keeper. Lotina's side have only scored once in their last seven games, and angry fans turned on the directors' box after the game ended.
