Espanyol are in ninth spot after drawing 1-1 against Villarreal. After an early chance which Tamudo lobbed over the bar, the next few minutes were in the locals half, Kameni saving the day with a series of blocks from Matias Fernández, Marcos, Cygan and Tomasson. But with the match half an hour old Luis García took a free kick quickly, and Tamudo volloyed the ball past Viera to open the scoring.

A few minutes after the restart though Diego Forlán produced a spectacular strike to level the scores. Luis García had a goal disallowed for the positional offside of two colleagues soon afterwards, and Forlán, Somoza and Fuentes all went close. But the best chance of them all fell to Cani in the dying minutes, the ex Zaragoza midfielder somehow shooting over the bar from two yards out after Marcos set him up.
