Racing Santander moved up into the top half of the table after a 1-0 win over Osasuna, and the Cantabrians are now only four points away from the European spots. Miguel Angel Portugal's side were unlucky to have a goal disallowed in the fifth minute, referee Pérez Lima ruling out a strike by Cristian Fernández for a non existent offside. But although they were in control for most of the first half, they were unable to carve out any clear cut chances, and the visitors could have gone ahead when Raúl García (who had replaced the injured Milosevic) headed over the bar.

Rubén had a penalty claim turned down and Colsa went close after the restart, but Juanfran was starting to cause some problems for the local defence. With twelve minutes to go though Zigic headed a Munitis free kick down towards goal, and although Ricardo pushed the ball away, Juanjo reacted quicker than anyone to head it back in to the net. Balboa could have increased the lead, and Webó slipped on the rainy surface when he had the equaliser within his grasp. Racing had clocked up their fifth home win in a row though, and their 36 point tally is their second best ever at this stage of the season.
