Real Madrid failed to take advantage of Barcelona's defeat, Fabio Capello's side being held to a 1-1 draw in the Bernabeu stadium by neighbours Getafe. Pulido headed against the bar and then cleared a shot from Reyes off the line at the other end, and Beckham crashed a long shot against the crossbar as both sides created chances. Seven minutes before the break Güiza latched on to Cotelo's pass to give the visitors the lead , but Van Nistelrooy levelled the scores from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time after Pato Abbondanzieri brought down Robinho.

Madrid had lost Reyes to a serious injury before half time, and after Beckham brought a good save out of Pato from a free kick, he too limped out of the game. Robinho fired a shot just over the top, and substitute Cassano failed to beat the keeper when free on goal, and then had a penalty appeal turned down. De la Red and Gago also went close as Madrid pushed forward looking to win, but they were unable to break down a solid defence before the final whistle. The draw means that they have dropped 17 points at home this season, and they ended the weekend six points behind leaders Sevilla.
