Athletic Bilbao stay in the bottom three after losing 0-2 to Gimnàstic, who move off the foot of the table as a result. Yeste went close a couple of times as the locals dominated the opening minutes. But Rubén Castro turned a shot just wide of the post, and ten minutes before the interval Pinilla found Portillo for him to beat Aranzubia and open the scoring.

Bizzarri had to be at his best to save from Sarriegui a couple of minutes after the restart, and eight minutes later Nàstic were left with ten men when Mingo picked up a second booking. Aduriz had a goal disallowed for a previous foul on the keeper, but the visitors caught out their hosts with a second goal on a rare foray over the halfway line, Pinilla having the easiest of headers on the far post after Aranzubia misjudged Calvo's cross.

Mané threw on a third striker, but even then they could not find the route to goal, and the disgruntled fans gave their players a hard time as they left the field at the end of the game.
