Racing Santander and Espanyol consolidated their mid-table positions after drawing 1-1 in the Sardinero stadium. Both goals came in the first ten minutes, Riera putting the Catalans ahead after De la Peña's free kick came back off a defender, and Garay equalising from the penalty spot after a foul on Munitis which was originally given by the referee outside of the area.

The Cantabrians had won their last five home games, and after Toño saved a header from Pandiani they dominated the rest of the match. Vitolo and Garay fired long shots just over either side of half time, Zigic headed against the bar and Kameni produced a couple of good saves from Scaloni. In the end though both teams settled for a point which keeps them level on 37 points, still six outside of the European spots but virtually enough to ensure another season in the top flight.
