Fifth placed Zaragoza drew 1-1 at Betis, and they stay two points behind fourth placed Real Madrid. Betis's appeal against a three match ground closure meant at least this game could be played in the Ruiz de Lopera stadium. But although the first chance fell to Caffa, who shot over the bar, Diego Milito opened the scoring for Víctor Fernández's side on the half hour mark after picking up a poor clearance from Juanito. The defender made up for his mistake though, winning a penalty off Juanfran on the stroke of half time which Marcos Assunçao converted.

Both sides had chances to go ahead after the restart, Doblas punching clear an effort from D'Alessandro, and César saving the day in front of Pancraté. Betis ended the match with ten men after Nano was sent off for an elbow on Lafita, and after that both sides settled for a draw. The Andalusians inch further away from the drop zone after five games without defeat, and Zaragoza maintain the status quo with the top four, none of whom could win this weekend.
