Espanyol's midweek UEFA cup exertions took their toll, the Catalans being held to a 1-1 draw by Levante. In the absence of the indisposed Salva, Reggi was given a rare start up front by the visitors, and he came close to turning in Kapo's cross early on. Riera tried his luck at the other end, but soon afterwards the winger tried to head clear a dangerous attack, and only succeeded in setting up Reggi for him to turn the ball past Kameni.

Riera made up for his mistake though five minutes later when he collected a long ball and slipped a pass through for Luis García to equalise. And after Tamudo shot wide, it was Riera again who hit the post with the keeper well beaten.

However the second half proved to be a disappointment for the home side, with nothing to show for their pains after Tamudo had a couple of penalty appeals turned down. The visitors were desperate to protect their point to keep them away from the drop zone, and Tomassi could even have given them a win when he fired a good chance over the bar. The Catalans had extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to ten games, but a third draw in a row in the league left them further away from the European spots.
