Third placed Valencia lost ground on the leaders after a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Racing Santander. With the city celebrating the local "Fallas" festival, the game was brought forward to Saturday evening, but the Cantabrians put a damper on things when Munitis opened the scoring with an acrobatic volley after Zigic headed back a Pinillos cross.

The home side came close to equalising a couple of times before the break, Toño saving well from Angulo and David Silva breaking through only to shoot wide, mainly due to a clash with his own team mate David Villa!

Quique Flores made two changes at half time, bringing on Joaquín and Viana for Angulo and David Navarro, who had been given a run out prior to starting his well publicised seven month ban. But nothing changed, and with just over an hour on the clock Oriol got above the defence to head a Munitis corner past Cañizares for his side's second of the night.

Del Horno headed wide soon afterwards, but Cañizares was called upon again to save from Oscar Serrano a few minutes later. Later in the second half Pinillos headed a Morientes shot away from under the bar, and a dazzling run from Joaquín was finally cleared by the defence. But Racing had pulled off the surprise of the day, and they move up the table to eighth.
