Sevilla kept themselves level with Barcelona at the top of the table after beating Celta 2-0 on Sunday evening. After their epic win in the UEFA cup on Thursday night, Juande Ramos made several changes. And although the visitors had also played in the same competition on Wednesday, they took advantage to dominate the opening minutes, Baiano bringing a good save out of Palop, and Tamas and Gustavo López going wide. The Andalusians recovered quickly though, and Ocio, Martí, Kerzhakov and Alves all tested Pinto before the break.

The first goal didn't come though until early in the second half, when the league's top scorer Kanouté converted a penalty after Gustavo López blocked a Navas cross with his hands inside the area. And although the Galicians were left with ten men after Canobbio was sent off, the locals were not sure of victory until Kerzhakov collected a pass from Maresca to force a shot past Pinto with the game already in injury time.
