Real Madrid moved back up to third after beating Celta 1-2 on Sunday evening. The locals started well, but Van Nistelrooy gave Capello's side the lead from the penalty spot midway through the first half after he was brought down by Pinto. And the Dutch striker could have scored two more soon afterwards, firstly when he hit the post and then when he brought a good save out of the keeper.

However Angel picked up a clever back-hell pass from Nené to equalise on the stroke of half time, and Casillas had to make some important saves in the second half, particularly from Bamogo and then from his substitute Jesús Perera. But once again Madrid struck against the run of play, Robinho heading the winner after Pinto could only push Higuaín's cross up into his path.

Madrid ended with ten men after Guti was sent off with two bookings in a minute, the first for diving in the area and the second for protesting. But by then the visitors had the three points in the bag, and Celta's lamentable home record continued on.
