Racing Santander continue their good recent form, and they are now seventh after an incredible 5-4 victory over Athletic Bilbao. Luis Prieto put the Basque side ahead early on with a free kick which Pinillos deflected into his own net, and Zigic and Urzaiz both had chances after that. But it was not until shortly before the hour mark that Cristian Fernández equalised from a Munitis corner.

Seven goals followed in the next half hour though, Etxeberría restoring the lead after Llorente headed on Aranzubia's long punt. Garay made it all square again from the penalty spot after Murillo barged in to Oscar Serrano, and Zigic steered a header past the keeper to put Racing ahead for the first time.

When Murillo put through his own goal under pressure from Zigic it appeared to be all over, but Etxeberría got one back a couple of minutes later, and Iraola appeared to have saved a much needed point for Athletic when he turned the ball past Toño from close range. But Zigic struck again two minutes from time to make it 14 points from the last six games, a result which keeps the visitors in the drop zone.
