Getafe finally got back to winning ways after seven games without a victory, beating Villarreal 3-0 to move back up to ninth. The visitors had the better of the opening minutes, Marcos Senna hitting the bar with a free kick, and Guille Franco bringing a good save out of Abbondanzieri before having a goal ruled out for a previous foul. But on the half hour mark Güiza stepped over Redondo's cross to allow Casquero to fire home an impressive shot, and Güiza should have had a second from the penalty spot after Gonzalo fouled Vivar Dorado, Viera making a good save from the striker's kick.

Marcos Senna tested Abbondanzieri at the start of the second half, and Casquero fired another volley over the top at the other end. A few minutes later though Güiza's shot was deflected into the path of Maris Verpakovskis, who turned the ball into the empty net for his first league goal in Spain. Abbondanzieri tipped an effort from José Marí onto the crossbar soon afterwards, but Guille Franco was sent off for a second bookable offence later on, and with seven minutes to go Pachón ran on to a long ball out of midfield to chip the keeper and wrap things up.
