Gimnàstic Tarragona must now be favourites for the drop though after losing 0-3 to Villarreal, leaving the Catalan side six points away from safety at the bottom of the table. Portillo shot wide for the locals early on, but with just over a quarter of an hour gone Diego Forlán ran on to Cani's reverse pass to shoot past Bizzarri from a wide angle. Forlán fired a free kick over the top soon afterwards, but Rubén Castro could have equalised either side of half time, hitting the side netting on a quick breakaway and then hitting the bar from close to goal after Pinilla set him up.

Villarreal sentenced the match though a few minutes later, Mati Fernández putting Forlán away with a lifted pass for him to shoot wide of the keeper. Nàstic tried their best, Cuéllar and Portillo both bringing good saves out of Viera. But with the game coming to an end, Mati Fernández completed the scoring with his first goal since joining the club in the winter. The result took the visitors to within five points of seventh place, which will be a UEFA cup spot this season if Barcelona and Sevilla reach the cup final and classify for the Champions League.
