Real Sociedad kept their hopes of survival alive after they beat bottom club Gimnàstic 1-3. Portillo, Pinilla and Rubén Castro all had early efforts cleared by the visiting defence, but Garitano headed Real into the lead early on after a López Rekarte free kick was headed back by a defender. Soon afterwards Víctor López was lucky not to give away a penalty after the ball hit him on the arm, but a few minutes later Savio made it two for the visitors with an angled shot from the edge of the area.

Portillo pulled one back with a spectacular long shot on the half hour mark which caught Bravo out of position, and the locals could have levelled the scores when Rubén Castro missed from two yards out just before the break. Merino brought a good save out of Bravo and then hit the post early in the second half, but Ansotegi made it three with twenty minute to go to take the Basque side above Celta on goal average, just four points behind Athletic. Nàstic are now ten points away from safety, and they could be down if they lose next week.
