Deportivo are virtually out of the running for the European places after they could only draw 1-1 at Athletic Bilbao, who themselves edged a little closer to safety. There was feeling of resignation after Depor's elimination from the cup midweek, although the Galicians could have taken the lead when Arizmendi headed Estoyanoff's cross against the post late in the first half. Gabilondo had brought a good save out of Aouate at the other end a few minutes earlier though, and twelve minutes in to the second half Murillo headed the Basque side into the lead from a Javi Martínez corner.

The lead only lasted a short while though before Riki equalised later with a long shot following Sergio's short free kick. Aouate saved from an Urzaiz header and Llorente headed another effort over the bar, but substitute Bodipo (finally recovered from a serious injury) almost won it for the visitors with a shot from a wide angle after a good run from the left of the area. Both sides ended with ten men after Capdevila and then Sarriegi were sent off for second bookable offences.
