Recreativo lost their last chance of making it in to the European spots after a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Espanyol. It was a disappointment for the Andalusians who dominated for most of the match, with Gorka (in for the injured Kameni) having to save from Aitor early on and Javi Guerrero heading wide. Coro fired a shot over the bar at the other end, but César Arzo went close and Uche brought another save out of Gorka either side of half time.

For most of the second half the locals continued to attack, Uche, Beto and Barber all failing to find the target and Cazorla and Juanma testing the keeper. But with a quarter of an hour to go Merino was sent off after holding back Riera on a quick breakaway, and Espanyol took advantage to win the game, Tamudo getting on the end of Luis García's cross to slide the ball past Laquait and in off the post.
