All square in the local derby between Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna, the match ending 0-0 on a day when the intense heat in the San Mamés stadium was the main protagonist. With only one minute on the clock youth international Azpilicueta tested Athletic's new keeper Gorka Iraizoz, and his opposite number Ricardo did well to keep out Etxeberría on the quarter hour mark.

But after that chances were few and far between, and it was not until late in the second half that David López fired a shot just wide, and young substitute Jon Vélez almost beat Ricardo with a back-heel flick. Athletic ended with ten men after the returning Aitor Ocio picked up a second booking near the final whistle, but by then both sides were happy to start the new campaign with a point.
