Mallorca beat Levante 3-0 to move into the top spots of the table, their first victory in the opening match of the season for ten years. The Islanders came out strongly from the start, new keeper Storari having to make a couple of saves early on. And midway through the first half Cirillo brought down Tuni in the area, allowing Ibagaza to open the scoring from the penalty spot.

Levante's first effort on goal didn't come until ten minutes in to the second half when Riga tested Moyà, but almost immediately play went up the other end and Webó headed on the keeper's long clearance for Güiza to run on and lob the keeper. And soon afterwards Ibagaza rounded things off with his second of the night after a long gallop down the wing by Jonás Guttiérez, making him the league's "Pichichi" after day one.
