First Division - Day 1

Espanyol 0 - Valladolid 1

Espanyol: Kameni; Zabaleta, Torrejón, Jarque, Chica; Corominas (Jonatas 58'), Moisés Hurtado, Lola Smiljanic (Angel Martínez 61'), Riera (Jonathan Soriano 77'); Luis García, Valdo. 4-4-2.
Valladolid: Butelle; Pedro López, Rafa, García Calvo, Marcos; Borja, Vivar Dorado; Sisi (Cifuentes 92'), Kome (Camacho 87'), Jonathan Sesma (Ogbeche 77'); Llorente. 4-2-3-1.

Goals:
0-1. 54. Llorente. Got on the end of Kome's low cross to turn ball in from close up.

A good start for all three newly promoted sides, Valladolid joining Almería and Murcia in the top half of the table after a 0-1 victory at Espanyol. The Catalans had only won their opening game of the season once in six years, and missing injured key players such as Tamudo and De la Peña they were unable to find the route to goal.

Both keepers were in action early on, Kameni tipping a shot from Llorente over the top and Valdo putting Butelle to the test. But a misunderstanding between Chica and Jarque let in Kome for him to set up Llorente for the only goal of the match early in the second half. Valverde brought on all the strike power he had after that, but Rafa could have increased the lead had he been able to convert Semsa's free kick later on.
