Atlético Madrid's faltering start to the season continued, and they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by a Mallorca side who are now second in the table. The match got off to a lively start, Agüero having a penalty appeal turned down and Güiza chipping a shot just wide with less than a minute on the clock. Moyà tipped an effort from Simao over the bar and Pablo went close with a header, but it was the visitors who went ahead when Güiza picked up a pass from Jonás Gutiérrez and rounded Leo Franco to score in the eighteenth minute.

Moyà was in action to keep out Agüero and Forlán, and Maxi hit the bar with a free kick before the interval. Pernía and Agüero tested the keeper again after the restart, but there was no way through, and the frustrated fans started to whistle at their own players. However Pernía finally latched on to a loose ball in the area to equalise with fifteen minutes to go, and at least save a point for his side. Even that was close though as Arango headed a good chance over the top late on.
