Villarreal moved back up to fourth in the table after a 0-1 win at Mallorca 0-1, who themselves drop out of the top spots as a result. The Balearic Island side had not beaten their opponents at home in seven years, but they started well, Viera having to save from Güiza and Jonás and Víctor hitting the post.

Guille Franco went close a couple of times before the interval, but a cross from Héctor bounced off the bar soon after the restart, and Arango fired another shot wide. Moyà did well to keep out Nihat at point blank range, but soon afterwards the Turkish forward got what was to be the only goal from a direct free kick.

The locals felt themselves unlucky not to earn a point though after Güiza got the ball in the net only for the strike to be ruled out by referee Pérez Burrull for a non existent offside.
