Athletic Bilbao won 1-2 against bottom club Levante, a first victory for Caparrós's side this season. Adutiz controlled Del Horno's cross to open the scoring for the Basque side in the eighth minute. But after that the locals dominated the rest of the first half, Iraizoz saving from Riga and Cirillo, Savio and Miguel Angel all failing to hit the target.

Storari had to keep out Aduriz a couple of times before the interval, but soon after the restart Levante were awarded a penalty when Del Horno handled in the area. However Riganó fired his spot kick against the post, and soon afterwards Aduriz got his second of the night with a shot which went in off Miguel Angel.

Riganó made up for his miss later on, heading a goal back from Pedro León's cross, and he could have saved a point late on had he not headed another chance over the bar. Muñoz and David López both had efforts saved as well, but when Amorebieta was sent off for a heavy tackle they fell back to defend to the end.
