Valencia are level with Villarreal in joint second place after beating Betis 1-2 on Sunday, their third win in a row. Quique Flores rested several key players, but the Chés still had the better chances, David Silva bringing a good save out Ricardo and Arizmendi shooting over when free in front of goal. And midway through the second half Valencia took the lead when Miguel cut through from the half way line to shoot wide of the keeper.

Up to that point Betis had not troubled Hildebrand, who was making his debut in place of the injured Cañizares. Odonkor did finally force him in to a first save, but soon afterwards Joaquín made it two after Morientes set him up, a goal he refused to celebrate out of respect for his old fans. Sobis did get a late consolation, but it was not enough to stop his side sliding into the bottom three.
