Zaragoza bounced back from their midweek elimination from the UEFA cup, beating bottom club Levante 3-0 to move level with Atlético and Mallorca in the top half of the table. Both clubs were desperately in need of a win, and the first chance fell to the visitors, Riganó's header brushing the post. After that though Víctor Fernández's side were on top, Diego Milito hitting the woodwork and Sergio García going close before the break, and Milito wasting a couple of opportunities after the restart.

Riga caused a small scare for the home fans, bringing a good save out of César with a long shot. But soon afterwards Sergio García put the hosts ahead, picking up Milito's pass to beat Storari. Víctor made a double change, bringing on Oscar and Oliveira, and the two combined for Oliveira to make it two a few minutes later. And with their opponents beaten, Oliveira got his second of the night after beating a couple of defenders and curling an impressive shot past the keeper. The defeat cost the job of visiting coach Abel Resino, who was fired later in the evening of the same day.
