Sevilla suffered their fourth league defeat of the season, losing 0-1 to a Deportivo side who started the weekend in the bottom three. The Andalusians appeared to have recovered their confidence with a midweek victory in the Champions League, but they almost went behind when Verdú hit the post for the visitors early on. Otherwise though the Andalusians had the better chances before the break, with Kanouté in particular heading into the hands of Aouate and then firing a shot over the top when free on goal.

Juande Ramos brought on Kerzhakov and Capel at the break, but they could not make any inroads into a well organised back four, and the ever dangerous Guardado curled a shot just wide of the target. And with twenty minutes to go Guardado got past Alves down the wing and crossed in for Riki to turn the ball into the net, his side's first goal in four games. Kanouté had a goal ruled out by referee Muñiz Fernández a few minutes later, and failed to control the ball when presented with another chance late on, but it was just not Sevilla's night.
